MM25.11 Mayoral Minute - Recent Disaster Declarations for 16 LGA'S in the Mid North Coast Region.

That Council note the natural disaster declarations in the Mid North Coast and Hunter LGA’s following the recent significant weather events across NSW and write to each council to express our support and offer any assistance we may be able to provide to aid in their recovery efforts.

Details
The month of May saw much of Northern NSW, particularly the Mid North Coast and Hunter LGA’s affected by a severe weather event, with record breaking rainfall leading to widespread flash flooding, a large-scale emergency services response and the tragic loss of five lives.
The impact of the weather event was so significant that the State Government declared a natural disaster for the following LGA’s; Bellingen, Central Coast, Cessnock, Clarence Valley, Coffs Harbour, Dungog, Kempsey, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, MidCoast, Nambucca, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Port Stephens, Singleton and Upper Hunter.
With further weather warnings still in place for much of NSW and with the Shoalhaven having experienced 15 natural disasters in 5 years, we know firsthand the devastation and impact weather event cause to a community and the strength and resilience it takes for the community to endure the long recovery and rebuilding process.
Shoalhaven City Council will write to each of the affected Councils to offer our support and any assistance we are able to provide to aid in the recovery effort.
