Recommendation

That Council receive the report – National Police Remembrance Day, for information.

Details

Each year, the 29th September holds a special significance for Police throughout Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and the Solomon Islands. It is a day for police to pause to honour officers whose lives have been cut short while performing their duty as a police officer. This important day is also a time to remember police officers who have lost their lives through illness or other circumstances.

Congratulations – Carmel Krogh, Director Shoalhaven Water

Congratulations to Carmel Krogh, Director of Shoalhaven Water and her team on winning the NSW Training Awards for Large Employer of the Year.

Carmel was presented the impressive award in recognition of Shoal Waters long running Traineeship Program – a partnership with HVTC Shoalhaven since 2009.  This program has enabled older workers to pass on their skills and knowledge to the next generation.

Currently Shoalhaven Water hosts 23 apprentices and trainee positions.  Trainees are placed on a rotation schedule to gain all round operations exposure.  Vacant positions are filled easily and young talent stays in the region. Many graduates have already progressed to senior operator roles.

Congratulations Shoal Water.

Congratulations – Zachary Jones

The Football Federation Australia contacted me to inform me that Tapitallee local, Zachary Jones, is among the 14 player Pararoos squad who will be competing in the International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football World Championships in San Luis, Argentina September 6-24.

The Pararoos are players with cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders including stroke and traumatic brain injury. They are a group of young footballers who are honoured to pull on the green and gold jersey. They live with the challenges of disability every day and despite the odds, do what they love – play the game. The Pararoos are a true inspiration to the almost one million Australians with similar disabilities.

Zachary, along with all the national team, would love your support and well wishes for the tournament. The best way to get involved is showing your support through social media – possibly a ‘Good Luck’ message via Twitter or a Facebook post –

The video below is a teaser to the World Championships and shows the Pararoos trip to Argentina.

The team have just landed in Argentina and are preparing for their first match against the USA on September 11. The Pararoos will also play world number 1 Ukraine on September 13 and their final group match against Northern Ireland will be played on September 15.

The Pararoos team, especially Zachary, look forward to your support.

UPDATE:  Zachary’s team finished in the top ten!  Congratulations.
